What is a bramble cocktail?

Dick Bradsell created the bramble cocktail in the 1980s in London (England).

The bramble cocktail consists of a combination of dry gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup, crème de mûre, and crushed ice.

In this version, we replaced the crushed ice with flower ice cubes for a more rustic touch and the crème de mûre with crème de cassis.

What is the difference between créme de mûre and crème de cassis?

Créme de mûre is made from blackberry, which tastes like blackberry, while creme de cassis is made from blackcurrant, an edible berry. Crème de cassis tends to be a bit sweeter than crème de mure.

Ingredients to make this cassis bramble cocktail

Gin: You can use your favorite brand.

Lemon juice: Use fresh lemon juice and one slice of lemon to garnish your cocktail.

Sugar syrup: You can use homemade or storebought.

Cassis liqueur: If you don’t have cassis liqueur, you can replace it with créme de mûre.

Edible flowers: You can use your favorite ones! We’ve used wild pansy (viola tricolor).

Bottled water: To make the ice cubes.

Ice: To add to your shaker.

Blackberries: To garnish your cocktail.

How to make ice cub flowers

First of all, you’ll need to use bottled water. Tap water has minerals and impurities, which make cloudy ice cubes. If you want to be extra picky, you can even boil the water twice before pouring it into the ice cub trays. We didn’t do that, we just used bottled water.

Next, pour the water into the ice cub trays, and add edible flowers on top of each cube.

Then, freeze the ice cubes until solid!

Use freshly squeezed lemon juice: No store-bought lemon juice tastes as authentic as freshly squeezed lemon juice, which impacts the taste of your cocktail.
