Ingredients
- 2 cups almond milk (480 ml)
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp arrowroot powder
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 2.5 oz dark chocolate, chopped (70 g)
- 1 pinch salt
Instructions
- Mix 3 tablespoons of milk with cocoa powder and arrowroot. Make sure you sift the cocoa powder and arrowroot to avoid lumps in your drink.
- Add the remaining milk, maple syrup, salt, and the previous mixture into a small saucepan.
- Heat the saucepan over low to medium heat and continuously whisk until creamy. Allow gentle simmer for a few seconds to activate the arrowroot powder.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate, turn off the heat and mix until the chocolate has melted. Pour into a mug and serve immediately. Top with whipped cream and grated chocolate!
Notes
Use good quality chocolate and cocoa powder: The better the chocolate’s quality, the better the drink will taste! So, make sure you use a good quality chocolate bar to make it super delicious.
Sift the cocoa powder: Cocoa powder is very clumpy! If you add it straight to the batter, it will be tough to break up any lumps. To prevent any lumps in the mixture, make sure you sift the cocoa powder and arrowroot powder.
Feel free to use any plant-based milk you have: We’ve used almond milk, but any other milk will work too.
Arrowroot powder is optional: Arrowroot powder acts as a thickening agent in this recipe to make it rich and creamier. If you prefer a more liquid hot chocolate, you can skip this ingredient.
